Lagoon Getaway

A longtime client of NHD fell in love with this magical, off the beaten path lagoon retreat on Martha’s Vineyard. After living and hosting in the space for five years, they asked the studio to update it to reflect their current aesthetic.

The challenge posed to NHD was creating distinct zones within a relatively compact open floor plan on the first level. However, the magnificent lagoon and surrounding forest views needed to remain the centerpiece—along with the husband’s love of anything nautical.

The newly updated kitchen effortlessly transitions from morning coffee, to dinner, and evening whiskeys thanks to a sculptural hard splash stone, exposed hand-rubbed steel stove hood, moody tones, and weathered pine beam on the ceiling.

NHD reimagined the first floor by designing a sumptuous wet bar and closing in an existing half wall to keep storage needs out of sight. The result is a main living space that gives the illusion of being much larger than its actual footprint.

In the primary suite, NHD was determined to prove that a cozy bedroom can still be bespoke and luxurious when everything has a place. The over scaled bathroom mirror, space-saving trough sink, and minimal palette of materials guides the eye straight to the magnificent island views.
